We spent Saturday in Two Harbors and Duluth along the north shore of Lake Superior.
We enjoyed the cool lake effect. We returned to St. Cloud at 11pm to sweltering heat–it must have been unbearable during the day in central Minnesota. The waters of the lake were unbearably cold, but refreshing for a few moments.
We spent some time at Tom’s Historic Logging Camp and learned about the lifestyle of the midwest loggers circa 1860 – 1920.
Finally, we ended the day at Betty’s Pies. The grilled walleye was so-so, and it definitely wasn’t worth the price. I was disappointed that there wasn’t any real butter available in the restaurant for my baked potato, they only had the chemically devastating margarine. But the real treat was the pie. Steve ordered a rhubarb-raspberry crunch pie that was fresh-baked and deliciously tart without an overhaul of pectin and sugar. The rest of the meal wasn’t anything to write home about, but the pie was spectacular.
