Music to Labor By . . .

Labor may be long, but I want it to be as relaxed as possible.  So, I plan on having some relaxing, upbeat, positive songs and CDs in the stereo. I’m requesting song or CD suggestions from YOU.  Comment back with ideas.

For now, I’m planning on using the following:

  • On and On – Jack Johnson
  • In Between Dreams – Jack Johnson
  • Peace Like a River: The Hymns Project – Chris Rice
  • Amusing – Chris Rice
  • Feels Like Home – Norah Jones
  • Overdressed – Caedmon’s Call
  • Long Line of Leavers – Caedmon’s Call
  • Various songs performed by Eva Cassidy, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, Diana Krall, Snow Patrol, Coldplay, David Gray, Dave Barnes, & Mazzy Star

Anyway, I expect labor will last far more hours than the number of CDs and songs I have listed, so please give me some ideas!!

  1. You should check out Kelly Sweet! Her music is very relaxing. Kind of like Nora Jones and Sarah McLachlan mixed together. Recommended songs: Rain Coat and We are One. Also, Madeleine Peyroux is really great! Her last album has a great version of Joni Mitchell’s River.

  2. You may also like Bebo Norman (I like his first album: Ten Thousand Days) and Amos Lee – (my husband describes him as the male version of Norah Jones). Good luck!

  3. I listened to a Feng Shui CD on “repeat” during the labor and even the anaesthesiologist liked it. We got it at Brookstone on our honeymoon. I used to listen to it when I needed to nap, so it helped w/ relaxing. I’d suggest music that makes you happy, relaxed, or even sleepy.

  4. I suggest the classical/New Age music of Daniel Kobialka. There are lots of choices, and I think choices and variety are important. You never know what you will be in the mood for on “Labor Day”!

Maybe it will be something familiar, something with or without a melody even, something with a world beat or a relaxing beat.

Whenever I listen to Daniel’s version of “Pachelbel’s Canon in D” it releases so much. It helps me just let it flow.
