New surroundings

Over the weekend, we visited my folks in the Hudson Valley region of New York.  This was only Calvin’s second visit to his grandparents, but it went so much smoother than the Thanksgiving visit when he was only 1 month old.

We could tell he felt a little frightened in a new place for naptime . . . which was basically non-existant the first day.  He’d doze off, then awaken screaming because everything looked unfamiliar.  We reassured him and spent much more time holding him so he’d realize we weren’t abandoning him.

He got a chance to bathe and swim in a very large whirlpool tub, minus the whirlpool action.  Calvin really enjoyed looking at the fire.  And, he offered plenty of smiles and laughs for his grandparents.

Our last evening there, we went to a fantastic local Italian place for dinner.  A young boy was seated at the table next to ours, and he kept peering over his chair at Calvin.  His grandfather put him in his lap and told him what he was like when he was Calvin’s age.  It was an adorable scene.

Since we spent 2 days and nights in New York, Calvin’s taken some time to get used to his familiar surroundings.  He’s rather clingy when it’s naptime.  It’s very obvious that this little guy needs a nap, but if left alone in his crib, he’ll just cry and scream for quite awhile.  It’s gonna take a few days for him to feel comfortable enough to fall asleep on his own in his crib.
