Climb a Mountain

I’m reading a really fantastic book called Secret Formulas of the Wizard of Ads given to me by business friend Chester Hull.  I started reading it yesterday on the road trip up to Pennsylvania, and there’s only a few pages left to go.  I love the fresh and creative way that the publisher arranges a series of essays by Roy H. Williams to inspire a positive mindset and a purposeful method of writing and communicating to others.

Not only am I eagerly anticipating my next trip to the local library to stock up on books of poetry to stir the soul and ignite the passion for writing that’s grown increasingly tedious, but I’m also eager to develop specific skills to become a better writer.

In Secret Formulas, the author prints an e-mail from reader Jim Huebner, a mountain climber.  Huebner cites his 6 Rules of Mountaineering:

  1. Climb with passion.
  2. No guts, no glory.
  3. Expect dead ends.
  4. Never turn your back on your partner.
  5. Never look where you don’t want to go.
  6. There’s always room on the rope for a person with honor.

Although those 6 Rules may bear truth in the literal sense, the overall philosophy pervades in most meaningful pursuits in life such as blogging, parenting, and running a business.

One of the repeated themes in the book that truly resonates with me is to love what you do, because life’s waaaaaay to short to do something you hate.

Granted, I don’t know how many people love cleaning up food on the floor (or worse!), but I love being a Mama.  That won’t ever change.

Life is short.  It’s a fleeting whisper that fades in a breath. Sigh.

Before I know it, Calvin will be a grown man embarking on his own life adventures and pursuing his own mountains.

Sherpani7Until then, I will cherish every moment of every day loving my sweet boy.  Until he treads the paths unknown and faces life’s challenges without his parents immediately by his side, he’ll be able to climb mountains with me.

Starting a business is definitely one of life’s greater challenges, but even in this tumultuous first year, the reward of independence and uninhibited creativity has proven to be an unquantifiable treasure.

Raising a son and growing a business are happening simultaneously, and both are invariably intertwined as far as my time and presence are concerned.

My dear boy is learning the love and sweat involved in growing a business by being a very real part and presence in the endeavor, and I would have it no other way.Rumba

For now, Calvin adventures with us while we bask in the beautiful outdoors.  I’d love for you to share in the experience of climbing mountains and surpassing hurdles with your own Sherpani Rumba Backcountry Baby Carrier.  Read my full review on the king of backpack baby carriers.

He got to ride safe and sound next to me while we walked around the lake and my hands were free to wave wildly about shooing away the insects.
