Hot Jeans for Hip Mamas

Chip & Pepper Stellas in Ash Rapids

Chip & Pepper Stellas in Ash Rapids

There’s one wardrobe item that’s an absolute staple for men and women and children: jeans.  You can dress ’em up with killer shoes and accessories or you can kick back and relax in a tee shirt and flip-flops. I have several types of jeans (from women’s to maternity in a few brands and sizes).

I have been on a desperate search for a pair of jeans that is flattering from the minute I pull them on to the end of the day when I’ve put ’em through the wringer with sitting, walking, and deep-knee-bending to pick up my son. To find a pair that was a good fit for my body shape, I visited the jeans-sizing guide at Zafu which floated Chip & Pepper® styles to the top of my list.  I recently found a pair that fit beautifully, and OH, do they do the trick!

chippepperChip & Pepper® is my new favorite brand of jeans.   As I type, I am currently sporting the Stella Bootcut Jeans in Ash Rapids by Chip & Pepper ($203) which were just introduced for spring.  The Stellas come in 8 other washes from optic white to crow black, and varying shades of indigo.

The back pocket placement and contour stitching adds considerable lift to the butt.  The denim is a lighter weight (perfect for spring and summer nights) and it’s been washed until it’s as soft as velvet without being constricting.  No need to wait several washing to break these jeans in, Chip & Pepper® already taken care of that!  The mid-rise waist provides a modern look in front, but the asymmetrical cut (read: more generous) in the back gives you the freedom to move without worrying about flashing anyone.  This feature alone makes these jeans worthwhile!

I truly love them because even after all-day wear which includes chasing a toddler, picking up a toddler, climbing stairs multiple times (wash, rinse, repeat 4 times), they still fit!  Ten hours later, the waistline still clings to my waist and the butt area wasn’t stretched or sagging.  The jeans still hugged my curves and looked as if they still had another week to go before they needed a rest.  Chip & Pepper® could rename the Stellas the Marathon jeans, so women would truly understand their capability and endurance to keep up with a very busy routine!  Free shipping is available for all U.S. orders.

Sizing consideration: These jeans are cut long.  If you’re blessed with long legs, then no worries.  If you have shorter legs, then feel free to sport the cuffed hemline which is very in for spring, and lower them for year-round use with boots.

What mom wouldn’t want a pair of jeans that makes her feel comfortable, attractive, and well-covered?  Gift certificates are available on Chip & Pepper’s® site, and you can also win a pair for you or your favorite mom.

Silver Lining

When I was a child, my aunt Debbie was a color analyst.  She would help people determine which colors complemented their skin tone, eyes, and hair color to help them look their best by holding up swatches of solid-colored fabrics.  Light and airy pastels were for people who were classified as “Springs” and rich and bold colors were for “Winters” with other rainbow hues reserved for “Autumns” and “Summers”

My color classification was Winter.  Winters can wear black, fire engine red, electric blue, and even emerald green, but they must avoid pastels,  off-white, and yellows like the plague.  Gold as a metal is okay, but Winters look far more stunning in Silver.  After getting my color analysis as a kid, I never forgot when my aunt emphasized that I looked better in silver than gold.  Since then, I always had an affinity toward silver or silver-colored metals.

My new favorite place to hunt for beautiful things in silver is Walker Silverworks.  Erica Walker’s father and sister are also jewelry smiths who inspired her to begin crafting on her own.   Walker’s signature style is modern with a classic vein.  Her designs are ethereal, lovely, and full of fun with a preference toward satin-finished silver.

My favorite piece in her etsy shop is the light loopy necklace which would really pull together a crisp white button-down blouse and pin-stripped slacks, but you could also look stylin’ wearing it with a form-fitting tee and jeans.

Other jewelry pieces by her design include earrings, cuff links, bracelets and rings.  Check out her lovely jewelry gallery, but take heed, you will fall in love!

Walker Silverworks is generously sponsoring Traveling with Baby’s Blogaversary Bash and honoring moms by providing a delightful and versatile necklace for one soon-to-be-very-happy reader.  Whether you want to win this for yourself as an extra special treat for Mother’s Day or whether you want to present it to your own mom, feast your eyes on the Organic O necklace which is designed for vertical threading, and there’s a design for horizontal threading.

Each Organic O is uniquely designed and can vary from1″ – 1 1/4″ wide and 1 1/2″ – 2″ long.  I love that it is tenderly and uniquely made by hand.  It’s simultaneously light with a feminine, yet bold flair.  When you purchase the Organic O necklace, it comes with 1 silk cord (multiple colors are available on Walker’s site).

Yet, the winner of the Organic O necklace will get 3 silk cords for variety and mood.  Feeling pretty in pink today, but you’d like earthy brown tomorrow, no sweat.  How’s that for changing the look and versatility of one stunning, handmade piece of silver jewelry?

Mother’s Day

My ideal Mother’s Day would be spent with my two favorite guys.  Phone off and no computer access all day long, but my camera would be by my side!  I’d love to start the day with breakfast in bed.  Something yummy that I don’t have to cook or clean up afterward.

Next, I’d love to do something outdoors whether it’s a hike on a trail with a breathtaking view or a leisure walk in flowering gardens hand-in-hand with my husband and son.

Finally, I’d love to wrap up the day with a savory picnic in a place with panoramic sunset views.  Chocolate-covered strawberries would definitely top my dessert list.

Sure, I’d love material things (I could REALLY use a new pair of those silky soft cotton pajama pants at Target with the cute prints).  But the most important thing to me about Mother’s Day is spending it with the people that make me glad to be a Mom.

Here’s what I want to know from YOU.  Tell me about your ideal Mother’s Day.  How would you like to spend your special day with your family?

On the Run

runner There was a time in my life when I used to be passionate about running, swimming, martial arts, indoor rock climbing, and a number of other things that had to do with self-improvement.  Yet, I woke up today and I realized I hadn’t done many of those things in a very, very long time.  I also realized it’s been just as long that I remembered missing or caring to do those things.

Isn’t it interesting how the throws of life can alter our focus (not for better or for worse, but things are just different).

Has that happened to you lately?

Did you wake up one day and realize it’s been months or even years since you did something you used to love to do.  Not because you no longer love it, but because life’s circumstances have put different loves in a higher priority?

Replaying the previous weeks in my mind, I find that I’m very focused on a handful of things right now:

  • What will I make for lunch/dinner?
  • When’s the next opportunity to work on Calvin’s potty training?
  • Can I fit in taking my son to the park between nap time and dinner preparation?
  • How long can I hold off on doing laundry until I REALLY have to do laundry?

Then, there’s the whole chiropractic practice bit where I work 3-4 days per week.  But, even on days I’m not working, I’m still “working”.  Whether it’s thinking about different approaches to treating spinal conditions or preparing for my next education talk in the community or spending a large majority of my time on the phone with insurance companies, I’m still mentally “at work” even on many of my “off” days.

I also realized that in order to be a loving wife and mom with increasing patience and a pleasant disposition, I also need to take a little time just for me every week.  My “me time” has definitely varied over the years.  I was once completely immersed in jazz singing, then I poured my time and energy into playing guitar.  When I was in chiropractic college, I ran at Daytona Beach or swam laps to get my mind off the stresses of exams and practicals.

Then, I became a mom.

It took me a long time figuring out how to take care of my son and myself simultaneously.  Once in a great while, I was able to sneak away (usually after bedtime) to swim laps once a week or once a month.  I also was able to spend once a week training in martial arts.

Then, we moved to Charlottesville, and I became a part-time working mom (starting up my own practice…from scratch). Since January, I’ve had the opportunity for “me-time” for a few minutes here and there.  Invariably, I get interrupted while I’m in the shower with a knock on the door.  I think I kinda gave up in trying to figure out how to work it into my jam-packed balancing act schedule.

But, today I woke up and realized I used to love running–and I haven’t done it in months.  MONTHS!

The weather is gorgeous.  The trees in central Virginia are beautiful.  And, I have not yet been running.  Why not?  Why did I forget to pencil in some jogger stroller bonding time?

I couldn’t think of an answer to the question except for the bullet points mentioned above.

So, this is what I’m going to do about it.  Instead of trying to take my son to the playground 2-3 times a week, I’ll just shoot for once a week.  And then I’ll make it a point to run at Jefferson Parkway or even in my little neighborhood twice a week.  Just to remember what it feels like and why I once loved it.  I also realized the city pools are going to open in about a month.  We’ll be able to get some serious water time in AND hang out together as a family.  I’m definitely missing the joy of swimming.  And isn’t it particularly convenient that one of the city pools also has two adjacent playgrounds?

What is it that you haven’t done in a long time that you wish you had? What are you going to do to get back into it again?

Beauty Begins with ME

Mineral make-up is totally hot right now.  Not only is it easy to apply and blend to find a color that matches your skin tone exactly, but it’s lightweight while providing complete and smooth coverage, and it’s free of harmful ingredients.

I used to be a consultant for an MLM company associated with skin care and make-up.  Through the course of learning about different types of make-up (ingredients, application techniques, and benefits), I became very brand loyal and aware of different options on the market.  Since consumers have been demanding cosmetic products that don’t contain harmful ingredients and include high quality minerals, the cosmetic options have multiplied on the market . . . much to the benefit of the empowered consumer.

cat-image_anywearI was very pleased with the Mineral Essence line.  The quality and affordability of the products have allowed me to say goodbye to the brand that I was loyal to for over 7 years.

If you’re new to mineral make-up, the the Mineral Essence Transform ME Collection is a great way to get started.  This collection includes everything you need for a fresh look for day or night.

3246-large

Select 2 foundation shades complimentary to your skin tone.  Forget having to buy 1 color for the winter and 1 for summer, this kit has it all for you to mix, blend, and enhance shades specific for you year round!  For those unsightly blemishes that sometimes rear their ugly heads, there’s the Duo Concealer pencil which is my most favorite concealer that I’ve ever used.  It glides on, doesn’t cake on, and it blends well into the skin and works well with the Magic Finish Translucent Powder to create a smooth and clear finished look.  You’ll also be able to use Anywear Sunset Bronzer as an all over sun-kissed bronzer or as a lovely blusher which can be applied with the kabuki brush which is also included in the collection.  The collection also comes with a retractable powder bruch and a precision angled blush brush.  You can tote the whole set with you to the gym or to work in the enclosed silver cosmetic bag.  How nice to minimize your on-the-go make-up kit to a few lightweight items that give you the all day fresh and beautiful glow.  And, just to make things simple for newbies to mineral make-up, the Transform Me Collection also comes with a How-To DVD.  The entire collection is advertised as a $240 value which retails for $60.

Comparably, even with a consultant discount, I would only be able to afford a foundation and a concealer for $60 with my previous cosmetics MLM brand . . . and they definitely didn’t offer free shipping! Mineral Essence offers free ground shipping on any orders over $50.  Oh, I so love that.

Things I love about the Mineral Essence formulations:

It doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals, preservatives or additives that could potentially damage your skin or cause irritation. Gentle on even the most sensitive skin, Mineral Essence is hypo-allergenic and won’t clog your pores.

I’m eager to try their lip glosses and skin care, too.

Exclusive to Traveling with Baby readers, Mineral Essence is offering a 10% discount on all orders with code MOMBLOG. Order from Mineral Essence by visiting their website or call (800) 715-1006.
